Teledex’s new Opal DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) cordless guestroom phones are available in either 1.9 GHz or 1.8 GHz versions. Offering worldwide compatibility with the various region-by-region frequency assignments for cordless telephones. Besides this universal acceptance, the new phones offer several new features of interest to hoteliers and hotel operating companies.
Initially popular in Europe, DECT technology is gaining acceptance as the emerging standard for cordless phone technology in the United States as well. In 2005, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) relaxed frequency spectrum licensing requirements and costs associated with the use of DECT products in the U.S., clearing the way for adoption of the technology and frequency band in the U.S. Cordless telephones operating in the 1.9 GHz band are suitable for use in the United States and select non-European countries. Cordless telephones operating in the 1.8 GHz band are suitable for use in most countries in Europe.
